ABOUT DESERT NATIONAL PARK

Situated near the town of Jaisalmer, Desert National Park is one of the largest parks in India. It is representative of ecosystem of Thar Desert. The park represents a fragile ecosystem with harsh conditions to sustain life. Nevertheless, it is a home to unique flora and fauna.
The landscape of the park comprises extinct salt lakes. The landforms vary from craggy rocks, compact salt lake bottoms, intermedial areas and fixed dunes dotted by thorny scrubs. Sand dunes are also found in the area surrounding the park.
The fauna found here is adapted to conditions of desert. Mammals found here include desert fox, Bengal fox, desert cat, wolf, hedgehog, blackbuck and chinkara. The place is also a paradise for bird watchers. Many birds such as eagles, harriers, falcons, buzzards, kestrel and vultures, short- toed eagles, tawny eagles, spotted eagles, laager falcons and kestrels are found here.

WHEN TO GO ?

The best time to visit the park is from October to March. The best way to expolore the park is through jeep safari. Do not forget to carry a pair of binoculars to explore a wider view of the park.
