ABOUT MUNSIYARI
The word Munsiyari means a ‘place with snow.’ Situated on the banks of Goriganga River, it is a tourist attraction owing to its scenic beauty. The town lies at the base of Himalayan range at an elevation of 7200 feet. It is a starting point for trekking into the range. The remoteness of the town offers tranquility from the hustle bustle of city life. Another specialty of the town is that it offers panoramic views of majestic Panchkuli and other snow-capped peaks. The region offers a picturesque landscape ranging from mountains, valleys, waterfalls, flooded- culverts and nondescript villages. The region shelters unique flora and fauna. It is a home to snow leopard, bharal and Himalayan musk deer. Munsiyari is a paradise for bird watchers.Birds found here include Little pied flycatcher, Black Redstart, Streaked Laughing Thrush, Himalayan Woodpecker, Verditer flycatcher, Grey winged black bird, Scaley Billed Woodpecker, Black-lored Titare.
WHEN TO GO ?
The months of March to June and mid-September to October are the best time for visiting Munsiyari as the days are pleasant with temperatures being in the 25 – 30 degree C range and the nights being a little cooler. This period is also best for trekking in the surrounding mountains.
