ABOUT UMRED KHAR SANCTUARY

Umred Karhandla sanctuary is the most visited sanctuary in the Nagpur area after Pench Tiger reserve. Spread over two districts namely Bhandara and Nagpur in Maharashtra, it is bounded by Wainganga River and Gose Khurd Dam in the northeast, Bhiwapur in the south, Umred in the west and hills to the north-west. The sanctuary connects to Tadoba Andhari reserve through forests along the Wainganga River. The sanctuary also provides connectivity between tiger reserves of Bor, Tadoba, Pench and Nagzira.

The sanctuary is a home to tigers, gaur, wild dogs, flying squirrels, pangolins and honey badger.

WHEN TO GO ?

Best time to visit the sanctuary is January to June, October to December.

Reptiles – Indian cobra, Indian rock python, rat snake, russel’s viper, monitor lizard, checkered keel back and ratsnake.

Trivia – Umred Karhandla tiger reserve is home to one of the biggest tigers named Jai.
