ABOUT ZULUK AND EAST SIKKIM
Tucked away on a rugged terrain of lower Himalayas on east Sikkim, Zuluk is a hamlet close to Indo-China border. Located at an altitude of 3000m, it is relatively an unexplored tourist destination. Zuluk serves as a base to explore ancient Silk Route. The route began from Kalimpong and passed through Pedong, Aritar or Lampolkari, Padmchen, Zuluk and Jelepla to Chumbi valley in Tibet.
The region experiences an extreme climate with severe winters below freezing temperatures and wet and foggy summers. There are about 60 families inhabiting Zuluk, most of whom are immigrants from Nepal. Their only source of livelihood is construction and maintenance of border roads.
However Zuluk is famous for its natural scenic beauty and unique flora and fauna. Zuluk is famous for Sunrise Point and Tsomogo Lake, which is a popular picnic spot. In addition, Nag Temple and the Adi Baba Mandir are also major attractions. Apart from this, the Lungthung and the Luxmi Chowk are popular among wildlife and nature lovers.
The region is a home to mammals like Himalayan Weasel or A Martin, red panda, wild dog and deer and birds like Monal Pheasant, Blood Pheasant, Khaleez Pheasant and Snow Pheasant.
